Over the next 4 weeks, we ask you to make a commitment to follow our recommendations for choosing seafood. Whether it’s fresh; in a restaurant or take-away; or even frozen or tinned, we’ll help you choose. There are 4 delicious recipes to start you on your journey, and there is even a chance to win a Zoo Family Pass and a unique Seal Encounter*.
As a general rule, Taronga recommends eating more seafood from lower down the food chain, that are fast growing and breeding, and less likely to be overfished. To keep things simple, we have created a list of 4 fish to try.

The 4 fish to try have been chosen because they are abundant and caught with minimal impact on our oceans. We also have some other ‘better choice’ fish recommendations in our Wallet Guide that you can try.
The 4 fish to avoid are classed as Conservation Dependent and Overfished in Australia. These fish need a chance to recover and re-stock. Although sharks are included in this list, sharks comprise many different species, most of which are not overfished or conservation dependant. However, when buying shark, it’s hard to know which species you’re getting, so the precautionary approach is to make a more sustainable choice. You’ll learn more about sharks later in the Challenge.

To complete the Challenge successfully, you do not need to eat any more seafood than you normally do. We are just encouraging you to choose seafood that is a 'better choice' or more sustainable, for those meals. If you are a fish-lover and eat seafood more than twice a week, it will be helpful for you to use all of the 'better choice' recommendations given, and even look up the AMCS guide for more choices. You might even be able to develop your own recipes - we'd love to find out about these if you do!
Each week we’ll send you a link to our website which has a video message from one of our Marine Mammal keepers, interesting facts, information, another delicious recipe, and a quick quiz. We ask you to commit to just 10 minutes each week, to learn more about sustainable seafood.

At the end of the 4 weeks, we’ll send you a survey about your experience. Once you have completed the survey, you will receive a Certificate, and go into the draw to win a Family Pass and a unique Seal Encounter.*
We hope you enjoy your seafood journey, and are inspired to continue making seafood choices that are more sustainable from now on.
