Taronga Zoo's Work Experience program is for school students who are interested in pursuing a career in zoo keeping, animal care or zoo horticulture. The program is suitable for school students in years 10, 11 and 12.
In the interests of fairness, only one successful applicant per school will be considered and possibly assigned to a Zoo animal division for one week (Monday to Friday), excluding school and public holidays. Careers advisers and students are required to read and sign the work experience information package.
Indigenous students
Taronga Zoo employs an Aboriginal Education Officer who contributes to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for indigenous students.
Students with special needs
Taronga Zoo accepts students with special needs, as long as support is available and students are suitable for particular Zoo work areas. Please contact the Education Centre staff to discuss necessary arrangements.

Application Process
The 2011 School Work Experience Program is closed.
The 2012 program is now open.
Applications must have school approval and are processed on a first come, first served basis until the program is full. Only one student per school can apply.
Parents/Students
Ultimately your school will need to approve the work experience placement so please direct all of your communication to the school careers adviser. Please do not contact the Zoo as our arrangements are also subject to the school calendar and we will be required to contact the school.
