Labelling Palm Oil – hopefully getting closer
The amended Bill for mandatory labelling of palm oil is still making its way through Parliament. Should it be passed, palm oil will be labelled on all grocery products, including foods, cosmetics, detergents and even biofuels.
After passing through the Senate on the June 23rd of 2011, the Food Standards Amendment (Truth in Labelling–Palm Oil) Bill 2011 was received and read for a first time by the House of Representatives on July 4th. The Bill was then referred to the House Standing Committee on Economics for further review.
Every step is really important in helping to make sure that we save precious Sumatran Tiger and Orang-utan habitat. It could not have been achieved without your support and dedication. So many people registered their support for palm oil labelling, in all submissions made to the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee as of June 2011 and 163, 917 Australians showed their support by signing the ‘Don’t Palm Us Off’ petition.
Continue To Take Action

Each small effort will help make a difference for wildlife.

Sumatran Tigers are losing their habitat – forests are being cleared to make way for unsustainable farming and forestry including oil palm plantations.
To save precious animal habitat, palm oil must come from sustainable farms. As a first step, sign our petition to call for the labelling of palm oil on food products, so that we can work towards a sustainable solution.
Help Sumatran Tigers,

Did you know that palm oil is an ingredient in one in four food products? And that most of the world's supply comes from Indonesia and Malaysia - including the rainforest home of the endangered Sumatran Tiger.
Every year many animals die because rainforest is cleared for unsustainable palm oil plantations - but palm oil can be grown sustainably without destroying vital animal habitats.
To help support sustainable palm oil sources, the first step is for palm oil to be labelled on food products. Currently, with no mandatory labelling, consumers do not know what is in the products they are purchasing.
Show you care - ask Food Standards Australia New Zealand to legislate labelling of palm oil in all food products. Tell them don't palm us off.
We're working together for sustainable palm oil solutions.
Schools wishing to participate in the Don't Palm Us Off campaign can print this poster to highlight the issues with families and friends and encourage all to sign the petition.
Everyone deserves the right to choose.
