Plan the perfect day
Download and print your own copy of the Zoo Map. Work out which animals your children would like to see and plan a route. Don’t forget to check what keeper activities are on, and make sure you take advantage of child friendly areas, such as the Safari Park playground.
Hire bikes or carts and ride like the wind!
Bikes (with optional tows or cabooses) can be hired so you and your family can ride like the wind! For those looking for a less vigorous way to explore the Zoo, electric carts can also be hired, or you can walk or drive your own car around the circuit. Getting around Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
Make use of stroller hire
Strollers may be hired for $12 for four hours from the Hire Centre. Limited numbers are available so be sure to get in early.
Bring a picnic blanket
The Zoo is a magical place to picnic. Free BBQ facilities can be found at a number of picnic areas around the zoo.
If you don’t want to bring your own food, the Zoo’s take-away outlet Bakhita’s to go located in the Visitor Plaza and the Streets Milkbar located half way around, will cater to your needs.
Don’t forget hats and sunscreen
The Zoo is an outdoor experience, so being sun smart is important. Hats and sunscreen can be purchased from the Zoo Shop if you forget your own. Don’t forget to re-apply as necessary!
Stop and rest frequently
The Zoo has plenty of seating and picnic areas where you can stop and relax. These breaks provide a great opportunity to look at the Zoo Map, find out about the next keeper talk or play a game with your children.
At the end of the day
Following a day in the Zoo why not stop in at the Safari Park children’s playground and let the children play whilst you enjoy a coffee or refreshments from Bakhita’s Café located in the Visitor Plaza, a free recreation area for families to enjoy throughout the day and definitely a great way to cap off your day at the Zoo.
