The Przewalski Horse is also known as the 'Takhi', a word meaning spiritual in Mongolian.
Tragelaphus euryceros isaaci
Bongo are handsome African forest antelope and no relation to drums! In fact they are very qiuet and placid, and rarely make a bleat.
Living in dense forest, they rely on their very large ears to detect other animals and approaching predators. Creamy stripes on their dark chestnut coat break up their outline to provide camouflage. Their coat has a slightly oily secretion and the red colour can actually run when it rains.
Females 'Shani' and ' Nambala' and male 'Marraquie' make up Western Plains Zoo's Bongo breeding group. The most recent calf was born to 'Nambala' on the 26th October 2006.
