Western Plains Zoo is only five and a half hours from Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle by car.

Transport around the Zoo itself is by car, bike, electric cart or on foot. Bikes and electric carts are available for hire, and visitors are also able to move around the Zoo in their own cars or on their own bikes. While Western Plains Zoo also provides helmets, it is recommended that visitors supply their own helmets where possible.

There are no bookings held on our hire items and, as carts and some specialty bikes are in high demand during weekends and school holidays, we recommend that visitors enquire at our hire shed upon arrival to arrange the best option.

The Zoo operates on a 6km one-way circuit system with the animal exhibits and picnic grounds situated along the way. Most exhibits can be seen from the road but there are some that require you to walk a short distance. It is important to remember that the Zoo circuit is a public road and normal road rules apply at all times.

  • Bike 'n Tow - $25.00 per hire (4 hrs) - limited quantities available for hire
  • Bike 'n Caboose - $29.00 per hire (4 hrs) - limited quantities available for hire
  • Child Seat (for push bike) - $5.00 per hire (4 hrs)
  • Electric Cart (four or six seater) - $69.00 per hire (3 hrs).
