At least someone’s happy with the rain!

Our six Wandering Whistling Ducks have been enjoying the wet weather this week. The rain has turned the Red Kangaroo yard at Backyard to Bush into a little pond and the ducks are having a lot more fun playing in it than the kangaroos!

Wandering Whistling Ducks are found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and the Pacific Islands as well as northern and eastern Australia.

They live near swamps and lagoons where they feed on aquatic plants and insects. Flocks, which can comprise of up to thousands of birds, migrate to inland water bodies after heavy rains.

At Backyard to Bush these water bodies just happen to be big puddles in the kangaroo yard!
