Workshop overview
Taronga Western Plains Zoo is one of the largest employers in regional NSW, offering far more than traditional zoo keeping roles. While many students imagine life as a Zoo Keeper, the Zoo’s operations span a wide range of professions — including Human Resources, Marketing and Communications, Retail, Tourism, Conservation, Research, Guiding, Food and Beverage, and more.
In this one‑day intensive Careers Day program, students gain valuable insight into the breadth of career pathways available within a modern zoo. Through presentations and Q&A sessions, learners hear directly from industry experts about their roles, qualifications, training pathways and the diverse skills required in their fields. This is a unique opportunity for students to understand how different teams work together to support animal care, visitor experience, business operations and global conservation outcomes.
The program is ideal for students considering future study or employment in animal care, environmental science, tourism, business, hospitality, communications or customer service. Careers Day empowers students in Years 10–12 to make informed decisions about their next steps and discover meaningful pathways into the animal care and conservation sectors.
