Workshop overview
Explore Charles Darwin’s discoveries and Australia’s remarkable biological diversity in this immersive Year 11 Study Day. Developed collaboratively by the Australian Museum, Botanic Gardens Greater Sydney, and Taronga Zoo, this cross‑institution program provides students with a unique opportunity to investigate biodiversity through fossils, preserved specimens, live animals and native plants.
Across the day, students examine the relationships between a range of organisms, exploring how specialisation, adaptation and evolutionary change enable species to survive in selected habitats. Through hands‑on investigations and expert‑led activities, learners deepen their understanding of the processes that drive evolution and the importance of biodiversity in maintaining resilient ecosystems.
Biological Diversity Study Days are held at multiple locations across New South Wales, including Taronga Zoo Sydney. Each location delivers a consistent curriculum‑aligned program tailored to the context of the site. For full details on all venues, booking dates and registration, schools are directed to the Australian Museum website.
Location‑specific workshops and resources vary slightly but align with the same learning outcomes and core concepts.
