Australia has some of the most unusual animals on the planet, but sadly one of the highest rates of threatened species.
Saving native species from extinction takes effort and collaboration from experts and organisations across the country. Taronga works with other not-for-profits, zoos, conservation groups, experts in Government, scientists, universities and Traditional Owners (to name just a few) on dozens of conservation projects, all aimed at preserving our incredibly unique wildlife.
This special investigative program, Surviving Extinction, on the ABC News Channel takes an in-depth look at what drives extinction in native animals and what is being done to save five very special Australian species.
