Create a wild community in your backyard

As we expand our towns, cities and farms we are making many changes to the landscape, and not all birds can adapt to this impact. Installing an artificial nest box can create a home for backyard birds and other native wildlife.

The solution

An artificial nest box can provide habitat for animals when natural tree hollows are not available. Installing a nest box in a tree in your backyard creates a safe place for wildlife to shelter and breeding, helping them live alongside people.

Buy a nest box

You can purchase a nest box at the top retail store during your next visit to Taronga Zoo, or order online from La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary. These nest boxes are made from sustainable material and do not hinder the growth of the tree they are attached to.

What you can do

Did you know?

It is not just birds that use tree hollows to nest or shelter in the wild. Other animals include possums, gliders, microbats, lizards, snakes and tree frogs.
