Sustainable fishing facts
Sustainable fishing means more fish
By managing fish stocks responsibly, sustainable fishing can help rebuild populations, providing enough seafood to feed an extra 72 million people every year.
Sustainable fishing means more life in our ocean.
Sustainable fishers improve their practices to ensure stocks remain healthy, and to minimise impacts on ocean life, protecting habitats, reducing bycatch, and helping marine ecosystems stay healthy and diverse.
Sustainable fishing means more for tomorrow
Sustainable fishing helps secure the future for around 34 million people employed in fisheries around the world, and thousands of fisheries are already taking action, with 738 engaged in the MSC program
So, how can you help?
This October, have a look at the seafood labelling on your tuna, sardines, salmon or any other seafood you eat. ¼ of seafood in Australia is MSC certified – so you can make some easy seafood swaps on your next grocery shop.
Did you know?
Taronga’s cafes and restaurants use MSC certified seafood. So next time you grab fish and chips for a bite to eat on your Zoo outing – you can be sure it’s certified sustainable.
