Dinosaurs Event Volunteer 

We are delighted to announce that Taronga Zoo, Sydney is recruiting for the exciting position of Dinosaur Volunteer to join our Dinos at Taronga Team! If you enjoy connecting with people, bringing stories to life, and creating memorable experiences for guests of all ages, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!  

As a Dinosaur Volunteer, you’ll help deliver engaging and interactive prehistoric experiences across the zoo, supporting a range of dinosaur-themed activations, while sharing conservation messages that inspire guests to be ambassadors For The Wild.

The purpose of the role is to:

Taronga is seeking enthusiastic, energetic, and customer-focused volunteers to support the delivery of our Dinos at Taronga event.

Working alongside our Guest Experience Team, Dinosaur Volunteers will help bring prehistoric experiences to life by supporting a range of interactive guest activities across the zoo. This may include assisting visitors at the Fossil Dig, supporting roving puppet and dino encounters, helping with the Dinos Alive Show, encouraging participation, answering general questions, and assisting with the setup and operation of activations.

Throughout your shift, you will play an important role in creating a fun, welcoming, and memorable experience for guests, while providing excellent customer service and working collaboratively as part of the Dinos at Taronga Team. 

Position details

• This role is available all days, Monday to Sunday, for the duration of the Dinos at Taronga Event (Friday 11th December 2026 to Monday 26th April 2027)

• Shift times are either 10am-4pm or 10am-2pm

• Applicants must be available to work at least one day per week or one day per fortnight throughout the program, including school holidays and term time

• All Taronga Volunteers are required to acquire and maintain a valid Working with Children Check (FREE for volunteers)

• The position is located at Taronga Zoo, Sydney

• Successful applicants will be required to attend a short interview on either Monday 26th October or Tuesday 27th October 2026

• Successful applicants will also be required to attend two mandatory training and induction sessions:

  • Session 1: Either Wednesday 25th November or Saturday 28th November 2026

  • Session 2: Either Wednesday 2nd December or Saturday 5th December 2026

• At the conclusion of the event, some volunteers may be invited to apply for a position within the Guest Experience Volunteer Program

Please note: This volunteer role will have no direct animal contact.  

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have a passion for conservation and an interest in helping others connect with wildlife and nature
• Enjoy engaging with a wide range of guests, including children and families
• Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills
• Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and be physically fit and capable of navigating a steep site (estimated 10,000 steps per shift)
• Be reliable, punctual and committed to your volunteer role
• Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team
• Be able to follow instructions and maintain attention to detail
• Bring a positive attitude, kindness, and enthusiasm to every shift

Cost

A Volunteer Programs Joining Fee of $120.00 will be charged to successful applicants**.
