Workshop overview

Celebrate World Environment Day at Taronga Zoo Sydney — a unique opportunity for your students to come face-to-face with fascinating animals and the habitats they call home.  Developed collaboratively by Be the Future and Taronga Zoo, this program develops students’  understanding of human–environment interactions while empowering them to take meaningful action and design real-world solutions.

Across the day, students engage in an interactive experience led by Be The Future, exploring “Nature-Based Solutions” through global initiatives showcased in digital floor games and creative design activities using recycled materials. Students join a Taronga Educator in our immersive habitat classrooms to investigate how animals are affected by changing environments—both natural and human-induced—and encourage students to develop practical ways to support and protect these species.

Through hands-on activities and expert-led lessons, students deepen their understanding of the interconnectedness between animals, habitats, and sustainable solutions for a thriving planet.

Learning outcomes - Stage 2

ST2-SCI-01: uses information to investigate the solar system and the effects of energy on living, physical and geological systems

ST2-DDT-01: uses a design process to create products to address user needs or opportunities

Learning outcomes - Stage 3

ST3-SCI-01: uses evidence to explain how scientific knowledge can be used to develop sustainable practices

ST3-DDT-01: uses design processes to create, evaluate and modify designed solutions
