Taronga is supporting the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) through a task-force being managed by the Zoo and Aquarium Association ( ZAA). TSA is a global partnership committed to achieving zero turtle extinctions in the 21st century, through breeding programs, field research, conservation plans, conservation education, and advocacy of greater enforcement of wildlife laws.

In April 2018, approximately 10,000 critically endangered Radiated Tortoises were confiscated in Madagascar. Experts from the TSA and several zoos and aquariums were dispatched with medical supplies to administer medical care for the sick or injured tortoises and general animal care. Taronga’s support will assist the ZAA-led task-force to care for and relocate the confiscated tortoises.
