Be cautious as you head out to explore the unknown, but don't be afraid. This could be the start of your greatest adventure.

Competition details

Stage 2-4 students are encouraged to develop a piece of imaginative writing (maximum 300 words) using the following image as a stimulus. This activity has been developed for students to practise their writing skills. Taronga Educators will be marking submissions based on a selection of NAPLAN criterion.

Entry details

  • Competition opens: Monday 6 March 2023
  • Competition closes: Monday April 10 2023
  • Entries must be submitted by classroom teachers. No entries will be accepted from individual students. 
  • All students are encouraged to take part in the writing task, but classroom teachers must only submit ONE entry from their class into this competition. 
  • Entry is via OpenForm. No entries will be accepted via email or any other method. 
  • All students are encouraged to submit their work to urban field naturalist https://www.urbanfieldnaturalist.org/
  • Entries will be marked using the marking criteria.
  • A winner will be chosen from Stage 2, 3 and 4. 
  • Winners will be announced during week 2 Term 2, 2023

The prize

There will be one (1) winner from each category below:
-    Category one: Year 3 to Year 4 (Stage 2)
-    Category two: Year 5 to Year 6 (Stage 3)
-    Category three: Year 7 to Year 8 (Stage 4)

Each winner's winning piece will be shared on the Taronga Zoo Website. Plus, each winner will receive a family pass to visit Taronga Zoo Sydney or Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo.
