Decoding the Universe: Exploring Nature's Hidden Language
The Taronga Education Team are really excited to support teachers by providing the following resources.
Whether you are going to be coming to the zoo to celebrate Science Week or looking for opportunities to learn about Natures Hidden Language in class, we have a suite of resources available for you, with worksheets, activities and short videos with an overview of some of the amazing work that Taronga's Scientists are doing.
Heading to the zoo?
Download the Decoding trail—a self-guided adventure designed to challenge curious minds and uncover the hidden secrets of the natural world!
Students will explore the zoo through a scientific lens, using clues, patterns, and critical thinking skills to decode information about animal adaptations, behaviours, help them decode their environment.
Celebrating Science Week at School?
You don’t have to visit the zoo to join the fun!
The Taronga Education Team has created a special Science Week resource book that can be doe anywhere. Dive into the world of animal adaptations and discover how both animals—and humans—decode the world around them.
From animal tracks and patterns to sounds, signals, and survival strategies, you’ll explore how creatures use natural codes to navigate their environments.
You’ll also learn how scientists (like you!) interpret these signs to understand more about species, ecosystems, and conservation.
Decoding the Universe: The work of Taronga's Scientists
Ever wondered how scientists make sense of the natural world? In this special Science Week video series, some of Taronga Zoo’s scientists share how they decode the universe in just a few short minutes!
From DNA to dingos and sadly death, there is always something to decode at the zoo and in the wild.
Watch one or more of the interviews with Taronga's Scientists below and download the activity sheet to complete.
